The
Artist
Don Portelance was born, raised and presently
resides in the Greater Vancouver area, Canada.
He studied at
Vancouver School of Art, University of British Columbia and at the
Western Washington University.
In 1974 Don studied
works of Master Artists in six countries of Europe. In 1975 he returned
to Vancouver to continue his Post Graduate courses in Fine Art
Lithography at the Vancouver School of Art (presently the Emily Carr
College of Art and Design), and graduate field studies of Haida art and
culture at the Simon Fraser University.
Since the early
sixties Don Portelance has maintained a busy exhibition schedule, has
been active in teaching artists and teachers of art, juried exhibitions
and arts awards competitions, lectured on art related subjects, and
advised arts organizations on various topics. He travels frequently and
presently he has been to over 30 different countries. In each he studies
the local art and paints images and ideas suggested by the location.
Don Portelance has
exhibited in many one-man and group shows locally and internationally.
His Works of Art are
represented in public, private and corporate collections in many
countries.
Don is a recipient of
many awards for his works of art through the years.
Presently married
with three children, Don Portelance maintains his studio in the Greater
Vancouver area, Canada.
